About Active Care Chiropractic York

At Active Care Chiropractic we take pride in being able to help patients suffering from a wide range of complaints – not just back problems – but all over the body.

It is easy to mistake chiropractic care for only being able to treat back related injuries, however our people centred clinic have provided care for a whole host of reasons from painful ankles to migrains.

If you’re not sure whether chiropractic is right for you please call us, we’d love to provide you with the information on the best way to get you feeling your best.

Our Chiropractic Clinic

Active Care Chiropractic was established in York in 2008 with a goal of providing people focussed care, ensuring we can provide the best care for any and all patients. We later moved to the present location in 2015.

The clinic at 238 Melrosegate is welcoming and comfortable and willing to do anything to ensure you feel relaxed about your appointment.

We take pride in offering people a range of ways to help them be as active and healthy as possible.

Chiropractic is best known for manipulation of the spine but we firmly believe there are many more ways to help the body.

You can see some of the varied and specialist techniques we use on our Specialist Techniques page.

Our Techniques

– Graston Technique ®

– Active Release Technique

– FAKTR (functional movement based treatment)

– Myofascial Dry Needling (sometimes known as “medical acupuncture”)

– Manipulation (or adjustment) (what chiropractors are best known for)

– Exercise prescription (rehabilitation/Prehabilitation)

– PhotoBioModulation/Laser Therapy (red and near infra red light therapy)

Being in the Core Medical Team for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games has been a highlight of Phil’s career. He was invited to work at the Olympics in Rio 2016 but decided he couldn’t leave the people of York for that long!

He enjoys leading an active lifestyle and has always taken pleasure in playing sport, specifically rugby and tennis, representing his university rugby team.

Harry

Harry Whitaker

Harry, our newest member of the team, graduated from the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic in 2023 with a First-Class degree in Chiropractic.

He chose to join the profession due to his interest in anatomy from his own sporting injuries, after spending his youth rowing on the river Ouse for York City Rowing Club. He enjoys cycling, running, and going to the gym in his spare time, as well as coaching rowing at York University.

Harry’s sporting interests led him to become qualified in Active Release Techniques, which is the gold-standard in soft tissue injury treatment and prevention – great for helping athletes stay at the top of their game!

Brenda

Brenda joined the team in January 2021 and we’re really lucky to have her! Before joining the team she worked in York primary schools for many years as both a teacher and headteacher.

She’s always ready to welcome our patients with a smile and a chat about anything from needle-felting to red wine!  When she’s not in the clinic she’s likely to be working on her Felty & Fabulous creations or walking the dog.

Nancy

Nancy is passionate about chiropractic and has been since Phil (her husband) rid her of shin pain caused by running back in 2003. She joined the team in 2021 after working at the University of York for over 14 years. You might see her in clinic but she spends more time working behind the scenes. If you want to chat to her about NovoTHOR® then let one of the team know; she’s a big fan!
